Brief :
"How the culture around Japan's most traditional green tea is shifting with the times." Article illustrations for the thoughtful Matcha story by Anna Lee C. Iijima.
The story describes how traditional Japanese matcha has been accepted in the U.S. as a single flavor, such as matcha latte and sweets made with matcha, and how Japanese matcha masters view it.
Illustrations of traditional tea house scenes, Westernized matcha sweets and drinks seen today, and illustrations of people enjoying traditional matcha and matcha lattes show matcha as a global favorite.
The Final Images
Sketches
The Client preferred to see the blending/combined illustration of the image A and C as the traditional representation - that turned the tea room image as a final, also the client choose the image D as the ritual and modern use / interpretation, E as the concept of messaging and ease of identification / connection to the story.
These illustrations were created using Adobe Photoshop and/or Procreate by Yoko Baum, utilizing raster brushes. No AI was involved in the creation of these artworks. Happy Human-Powered Creativity!
